    Thanks for posting this Alex!

This was a very an amazing presentation. Very honest and heartfelt. Nick and his wife Rustina (with their children present as well) share their personal and families stories about coal mining in Appalachia. They start small, in their home town but end big by bringing in a myriad of fossil fuel projects all across the country. They even included Cherry Point.

Lummi Council member Jay Julius, Lummi Elder Jewell James and Dr. Kurt Russo of the Lummi Sovereignty and Treaty Protection Office made a surprise visit to the presentation. Council member Julius was moved and asked to speak, thanking Nick and his family for sharing of their story of the impacts of the fossil fuels industry on families and communities across the U.S., sharing of the struggle opposing the industry and sharing with us the reality of what happens to these families and communities when the fossil fuel industry is allowed to have their way.

It’s a stark reminder of what we have to lose. They’ve already lost a lot and we’d do well to heed their message.

Thank you Nick & Rustina. Thank you for your courage, wisdom and willingness to share your story. Safe journeys to you and your family.
