Connect with a community in your area that is affected by climate change

Get connected (or deepen your connection) with communities in your area that are at the frontlines of climate change and find out how you can be of service.

If you aren't yet aware of which communities in your area are at the frontlines of climate change, environmental degradation, and other harmful byproducts of the fossil fuels industry, find out, explore what groups and organizations are being led by people from frontlines communities and serving their needs, and ask how you can help.

I will increase my involvement with Portland Rising and Given that I am already a member of my local NAACP chapter, I will ask them about the NAACP Climate Justice Initiative. If they are doing work on this, I will join them. If not, I will offer to help do this work locally.

I spend almost all of my free time working with Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL). CCL is a non-partisan advocacy group working to pass federal carbon fee & dividend legislation. I am convinced that through changing the rules of the market to reflect the true cost of burning fossil fuels, we will buy the time to address the more systemic problems of climate justice. My primary work is in doing presentations describing local and global impacts of climate change and how we, as citizens, can encourage our members of Congress to address this issue using the power of respectful dialogue and building on-going relationships with our legislators..

I commit to further supporting the work of Interfaith Power & Light, and will attend at least one in-person meeting or rally in the course of this calendar year, and seek to host a green-energy workshop for homes at my congregation, and will share simple ideas for saving energy and resources through our religious education program and related social media.
